All you need to make this creamy pumpkin pasta with sage recipe is 30 short minutes. And if you have a picky eater or a pumpkin hater in your family, don’t worry, the pumpkin flavor is barely noticeable.

  • Prep time: 10 minutes
  • Cook time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 12 oz of your preferred pasta (I used rigatoni)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 8–10 fresh sage leaves, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup pumpkin purée
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup reserved pasta water, as needed
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Extra parmesan and fresh sage, for serving

Creamy Pumpkin Pasta Recipe

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta.
    • Reserve about 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining.

  • Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sage and cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant and slightly crisp.
    • Remove a few leaves and save them for garnish.
  • Add the garlic to the skillet and cook for about 30 seconds.

  • Stir in the pumpkin purée, heavy cream, nutmeg, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Cook for 2–3 minutes over medium-low heat.
  • Stir in the parmesan until melted and the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
  • Add a little reserved pasta water at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
    • Adding more water will make it a thinner sauce.

  • Add the drained pasta directly to the skillet and toss until every piece is coated in the pumpkin sauce. Cook together for another 1–2 minutes.
  • Divide into bowls and finish with extra Parmesan, freshly cracked black pepper, and the crispy sage leaves.
