Is blogging even relevant in 2025?

Whether you are a budding content creator, an established influencer, or a business, you may be considering starting a blog. But obviously you are questioning whether or not it’s even necessary. Sure blogs were popular years ago, but is blogging still relevant? Blogs can be time consuming and extremely difficult to start up. So the question stands…

Do I really need to start a blog?

Simply put, yes, you need a blog. Especially if you are an influencer. Because affiliate marketing is the partnership of choice now for brands instead of purely doing paid campaigns. And sure you can post on your Instagram with your affiliate link. But that kind of reach only lasts 24-48 hours roughly. Whereas with a well researched blog, your links can thrive years after they’ve been created. For example, I am still monetizing a blog I wrote three years ago through affiliate links.

Blogging is relevant for literally anyone

Now if you are a business or a small shop, a blog can still be relevant for your sales. For example, if you are a clothing brand, you can make blogs around outfit montages for different seasons. If you are a service company, you can use a blog to answer frequently asked questions. So blogging is relevant no matter what your purpose is. You just have to find a way to insert your products into blog content that people are searching for.

Why blogging is truly relevant

When people are looking for something, they are using a search engine to help them. They aren’t going on Instagram and typing “best taco shop in my area” in the search bar. They are typing their questions into Google and hoping for an answer. And those search results won’t be showing your social media content. The search results will be showing website content.

When people are looking for answers to questions, they turn to blogs - not social media

Social media is great for fleeting engagement, time sensitive information, or sharing something fun. You may recommend to your followers how awesome a certain vacuum is. But within a couple of days, your audience probably will forget the model you were talking about. And if they weren’t a follower of your page, the odds of them finding the answer with you is slim to none.

Furthermore, how do you even expect them to buy directly from your video? They wouldn’t. They would have to go to your profile to click the link in your bio. Sad to say, but that’s just one too many steps for them. And that’s assuming your link in bio at the time they watch that video has that specific link.

Blogging is relevant because it will explode your monetization power through affiliate marketing

Having your own website with blog content ensures that those searches find their way to your door. And better yet to your affiliate links. In this way especially for influencers, blogging is relevant to make great affiliate money.

What do I write about on my blog?

It’s easy enough to say that you can “write whatever you want”. But that’s too vague and mostly untrue. You need to write things that are 1) in your wheelhouse, and 2) relevant to your audience.

So I will say this: you can write whatever you want within reason. Because the best information for people looking for an answer are going to come from reliable, well-researched sources.

What shouldn’t I write about in my blog?

People everywhere are looking for answers to questions. It will be your job to answer them. I can tell you from personal experience that writing about your personal experience will get you nowhere. Unless you are some mega influencer, I am not sorry to say this, but no one cares about how much fun you had in Utah. No one cares about how difficult it was during your breakup. No one cares about the list of books you read this year.

Instead, you should be writing content like this:

  • “Fun Activities to Do in Utah”
  • “How to Get Through a Rough Breakup”
  • “30+ Books that You HAVE to Read This Year”
A blog's main purpose is to answer a question

People are searching for answers for themselves. They are not going to type “what did Chelsea do while visiting San Diego”. They are going to search “what to do on a short trip to San Diego“. Obviously to answer these questions you will need to have personal knowledge on it. But to keep your blogging relevant, your content should be geared towards helping someone else. With of course a mix of your experience as reference. But it should not be the main focus.

Nothing is more painful than looking up a recipe and having to scroll through paragraphs of that person’s life history with their grandma. I’ll say it again for the people in the back – no one cares about YOU specifically. Mostly because the traffic you will receive on your blog are from people who have no idea who you are. So you will have to make sure your blogs are directed towards what other people would be asking.

Blogs are meant to answer questions. Even if they never formally asked them. Write your content in a way that helps to answer a question that they may not have even known they were trying to ask.

How do I start my blogging to stay relevant?

If you are wondering about where to begin finding questions to answer to write blog content, there are two tools to get you started:

Google Trends is one of the best tools to research and write relevant blogs

Google Trends can help you find what is relevant within a general search query. For example, if you want to write a blog about something to do with golf and you go on Google Trends and type in “golf”, it will show you what is currently trending in the “golf” search query. For example, the top 3 things currently on the rise with this search query are:

  • What is a double albatross in golf
  • Double albatross golf
  • Albatross meaning

Now if I was inclined to write something about golf, this has literally given me the exact title of my blog – “What is a double albatross in golf?” The content practically writes itself!

Secondly, you can try organically searching on Google to see what pops up as the “autofill” of your search. Or you can search for something and see what questions come up related to your search. For example, if you were to want to write content around a cooling comforter, the related questions to this search in Google are:

An example of how related questions on Google can help you craft relevant blogs

Again, Google practically gives you the titles to make blog content around.

Take it one step even further, you could even use these two ways to make YouTube content. In case you didn’t know this, YouTube is also considered a search engine. In general, people go to YouTube to help them answer a question. That means that if you type a question into YouTube, they will give you related videos to watch that match your question. Even searching something in Google, it will sometimes pair your question with YouTube videos to answer it.

So, is blogging actually relevant?

YES! Blogging is still relevant in 2026. So stop waiting. You need to start a blog because you need a blog. I personally recommend WordPress. It has helped me start at the level that I wanted for free and as I saw growth, they had upgrade options to help me do that. I love the amount of customization you can put in the blog content itself. You can also install plug-ins to help advance your blog further. A lot of the plug-ins I use are free too! I was even able to use one of the plug-ins to make my own app.
