What to Wear for a Rainy Day at Disney

Rainy days are only fun if you are properly prepared. Especially at a Disney park. If you aren’t dressed for stormy weather, a rainy day at Disney can be miserable. And for the amount that you spent on park tickets, a little water should not be ruining your day! That’s why it’s essential to know what to wear for a rainy day at Disney. For whatever Disney park you go to.

Want to skip to the goods? Check out this Amazon list with all of the product recommendations for kids and adults that will keep you dry from head to toe.

1. A clear, bubble umbrella for a rainy day at Disney

This is by far THE BEST decision you will ever make. At least when it comes to rainy days at Disney. The one I got is from Totes, but there are tons of options on Amazon.

For how gorgeous the Disney parks are, you’ll want to be looking around. Having a solid colored umbrella won’t allow you that opportunity. Not to mention, you can more easily maneuver around people since you can see through it. Also for someone like me who wears glasses, this is perfect. I can put myself in the little bubble and as soon as I move into the indoor parts of the ride’s line, my glasses are clear of raindrops.

Gone are the days of having the wind pick up and your umbrella bending against the wind. Gone are the days of the rain moving sideways and circumventing your umbrella’s defenses. This bubble umbrella will keep you dry from the top of your head to your chest area. I was even complimented a few times on my technique for using it! Holding it so my head was touching the top of the inside of it was the most dry I have ever been in the rain. I created a perfect bubble cocoon of dryness.

It also comes in sizes for kids.

2. A proper pair of boots, or shoe covers

A proper pair of boots is great to keep your feet dry during a cold, rainy day at Disney

The reason this says “proper pair” instead of “rain boots” is because for a Disney park, rain boots may not be best option. Rain boots make the most amount of sense for a rainy day. But at least in my experience, rain boots aren’t comfortable. Especially for all the walking you will be doing for a day wandering around the Park.

So instead I suggest a pair of boots that can be worn for more than just the rain. My personal pick are these platform boots. They’re fashionable and they work well with most outfits for rainy weather. Plus they did an amazing job keeping my feet dry and happy for a stormy Disney day. The platform sole also is great to keep you above the puddles. I even stepped in a pretty big puddle and thought “for sure this is going to be when my socks get wet”. But spoiler alert – they never did!

This boot comes in so many different colors that there is something for everyone. And be sure to pair it with some waterproof socks JUST in case some water does seep in.

And once the rain starts pouring, there are trip and slip hazards. You need to do your best to avoid them with good boots! (But if you don’t quite manage and you find yourself taking a tumble or getting into an accident, personal injury lawyers will be happy to help.)

What to wear for hurricane season at Walt Disney World

However, if you are looking for tips on how to keep your feet dry during the summer, hurricane season, boots aren’t viable. They are chunky and uncomfortable for those hot, humid days. Instead, get yourself some shoe covers instead.

Shoe covers can be easily stored in your bag until the rain starts. Because we all know how random that time can be. Plus they fit over virtually any tennis shoe. No need to suffer on your vacation with these bad boys!

3. A mini Loungefly backpack, or something similar

A mini Loungelfy or a faux leather backpack should be the only type of bag to consider for a rainy day at Disney

The biggest mistake made when figuring out what to wear on a rainy day is the wrong type of bag. Anything that is a fabric should never be considered. Not only will your backpack be a soggy heap, but so will everything inside.

I highly recommend getting yourself a mini Loungefly backpack or something similar. A faux leather backpack is a great alternative. It will be less expensive than a Loungefly, plus it can be used more frequently outside of Disney. There are tons of great options for Loungeflys and other faux leather backpacks on Amazon.

Additionally, I recommend 707 Street to find some of the exclusive Loungefly’s that you can’t get anywhere else! I also recommend browsing Nordstrom Rack to browse a good range of faux leather backpacks.

4. A long rain jacket for a rainy day at Disney

A long rain jacket is a great clothing choice to have during a rainy day at Disney

Your handy, clear umbrella is going to do a great job, trust me. But you’ll still need some proper coverage. A long jacket ensures that your booty stays dry when sitting down on a ride. Lots of rides are outdoors and probably getting wet in the process. Don’t get caught sitting in a puddle. Amazon has a wide variety of solid color, patterned, and Disney rain jackets.

I also recommend browsing the selection on Nordstrom Rack. Not only is Nordstrom Rack great quality, but you also get a fantastic price.

5. Layers, layers, layers

Layers are essential to keep warm. Unless of course you are figuring out what to wear to Walt Disney World in the summer during hurricane season. In which case, this section does not apply to you.

A long sleeve under a classic Spirit Jersey will keep you warm AND in the Disney spirit. And for those extra cold winter days, a pair of fleece lined leggings under your jeans will help greatly.

This section doesn’t require too much additional thought. Your closet should currently suffice to layer up for a cold rainy day at Disney!

Just remember, you can find all these recommendations and more on this Amazon list!

Loungefly’s have always been the staple piece to any Disney outfit. But Wondapop offers a refreshing alternative. These backpacks allow you to express your individuality and stand out from the crowd. And personally, I love the front pouch on the backpack. It definitely adds a different flare to these small but useful bags! Lastly, they are also made of faux leather just like Loungefly. This is great for keeping your belongings dry while you ride your favorite water ride or during a rainy day at Disney. […]
