The internet sensation, the Shrek Rave, has captured the hearts and imaginations of fans worldwide. This unique event blends animations of the beloved characters from “Shrek” with the energetic atmosphere of a rave. Picture Shrek and Donkey grooving to thumping beats, Fiona twirling under neon lights, and the Fairy Godmother twerking to the rhythm of techno. It’s a hilariously perfect fusion. And attendees really embrace the spirit of the event by dressing as their favorite characters from the Shrek universe.
The Shrek Rave has easily become a social media phenomenon and for good reason! And now the news is out – Smash Mouth finally performed at one of these raves!
About the Shrek Rave
This was taken at the very beginning of the night so the music was a little more tame.
The Shrek Rave is a perfect mix of EDM and Shrek. Although they don’t show specific scenes from the movie, guests are still entertained by a screen that shows the beloved characters dancing along with you in the most outlandish ways possible.
It’s an 18+ event that begins at 9pm and ends around 2am. Ticket prices for the event vary. General admission for the standing area is priced between $17.50 to $32.50. But closer to an event date, that price may increase.
There are also options to upgrade your tickets. For those that attend at a House of Blues venue this could mean perks like a VIP line entrance and balcony seating.
Stepping inside the venue was like entering Far Far Away. Everywhere you looked, there were individuals dressed as beloved characters from the Shrek universe. From Shrek himself to Fiona, Donkey to Puss in Boots. The crowd was full of green skin, donkey masks, fairy wands, and ogre ears. And I saw more Lord Farquad’s than I care to admit.
Because the Shrek Rave is open to people under drinking age, this means heightened security and a tamer rave vibe. This is not to say that these two things limited the experience. Because they absolutely did not. But for those who may not be comfortable with a full out rave, this is a great in between. You still get the high energy levels with a much more comfortable environment. And the energy showed no signs of waning, with latecomers still streaming in as late as midnight.
Taking Social Media by Storm
TikTok and Instagram have been abuzz since the Shrek Rave started. More and more videos keep popping up of “So about the Shrek Rave last night” and “What people wore to the Shrek Rave” being some of the most popular videos I see.
With videos showing off the outlandish costumes, infectious energy, and unexpected surprises of the night, it’s no wonder this has become so popular so quickly.
And over the last year alone, the Shrek Rave is looking to be better than ever in 2025!
Special Guest at the Shrek Rave: Smash Mouth!
If you were lucky enough to be in the audience at the House of Blues Anaheim on March 8, 2024, then you got an extra special treat! For the first time in Shrek Rave history, the lead singer of Smash Mouth, Zach Goode, took to the stage, sending the crowd into a frenzy of cheers and applause.
Having never seen Smash Mouth perform live, I was very pleased that Zach was as energetic as he was on stage. He belted out three of Smash Mouth’s most beloved hits: “Walkin’ on the Sun,” “I’m a Believer,” and, of course, “All Star.” It was a cherry on top of the night. Because Smash Mouth and Shrek is literally the perfect match.
The Shrek Rave was definitely an incredible experience. With locations around the world and events happening frequently, there is many opportunities to attend! I may even take my sister to the next one in San Diego for her birthday. Will I be seeing you there?
