So you’re going on a first date to Disney – how fun! But hold on, you’re going with a Disney adult? Well now you are in for a treat! Although Disney adults get a bad reputation for being a little ostentatious, they are still some of the most fun people to be around. There are two types of Disney adults. One that is simply an adult that also enjoys Disney, and one that has made Disney their whole personality.

Now although this blog will help you out on a first date to Disney with either kind of Disney adult, I will clarify something. It may be harder to go on a first date to Disney with the Disney adult that has made it their whole personality if you have absolutely no knowledge about anything Disney.

So if you are going on a first date with someone who is a little more Disney extra, you should definitely consider watching a few Disney movies before going. Maybe also learn a few characters’ names.

First Date at Disney Conversation Starters

• Suggest taking a selfie in front of the castle
  • First dates are about having fun and making memories. And a first date to Disney absolutely requires a castle selfie.
• Ask them to point out their favorite Hidden Mickey
  • Don’t know what a Hidden Mickey is? Ask them to explain!
  • Every Disney adult knows where a few are in the park.
  • Additionally, make it a point to be on the look out for even more to find together.

• Make a light-hearted bet for who can get the higher score on Astro Blasters or Midway Mania
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters is located in Tomorrowland in Disneyland.
  • Toy Story Midway Mania is located near the Incredicoaster on Pixar Pier in California Adventure.
• Ask them to share their favorite Disney memory
  • Whether the trip was with their friends, family, or a solo trip, this is a great conversation starter for a first date to Disney with a Disney adult.
• Ask what their favorite ride is and be sure to ride it!

• Buy them their favorite snack
  • Mickey pretzel? Churro? Dole Whip? Whatever it is, get them a little treat! Maybe even try one for yourself too.
• Offer to go look at the merch together
  • Window shopping is always fun at Disney. And no one is saying you have to buy them any merchandise. But at least offering to browse a few stores will definitely put a smile on their face.

• Ask them to share the most wild thing they overheard while in line
  • One thing about Disney culture is that you are 100% bound to hear some completely unhinged stuff while walking around or waiting in line for a ride. Your date will absolutely have something to share.
  • And if they don’t then maybe your first date to Disney will be the day it happens!
• Plan a posed ride photo
  • Not every ride has a photo opportunity. But some of the most exciting ones do, like Incredicoaster, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Astro Blasters, and of course Space Mountain.
  • While in line, plan a pose together and then have them explain where the photo is taken (or have them nudge you when the time comes) so you can get a great photo together!

• Build in rest time so the date doesn’t feel like a marathon
  • Preferably an attraction that you can talk on without interrupting other’s time.
  • Great spots to do this are Mark Twain Riverboat, PeopleMover, the Main Street USA Train, or people watching on Main Street, on Tom Sawyer’s Island, or overlooking the Mickey Ferris Wheel in California Adventure.
• BONUS: Before going to the park, ask if they want to coordinate outfits or Disney Bound together
  • Disney Bounding is essentially dressing up as a character using what is currently in your closet as the “costume”.
  • Disney doesn’t allow adults to wear costumes, so this is park-goers go to method for dressing up without breaking the rules.
  • Disney Bounding isn’t just for couples! You could suggest doing a Disney Bound of a princess and the sidekick.

• Go watch the neon turn on in Cars Land at dusk
  • In the Disney Pixar movie, Cars, there is a very heartwarming scene where the members of Radiator Springs fix their neon signs and it turns on at dusk.
  • California Adventure replicates this exact scene at dusk in Cars Land!
  • Ask a Cast Member roughly when the neon will turn on and make sure you are there with plenty of time.
  • There is no bad spot to watch the neon turn on, but my personal favorite is across the street looking towards Flo’s V8 Cafe.
• Offer to take their picture at a location of their choosing or with their favorite character
