Disposable and cloth diapers in a circle with money attached to a stack of cloth diapers in the middle

If there’s one thing a baby is going to do it’s use a lot of diapers. Sometimes it just feels like a never ending cycle of changing them and taking out the trash. And with diaper costs on the rise, many parents wonder what they can do to save money on diapers. Luckily there are plenty of options outside of just joining a diaper rewards program that will really help to cut the cost. Especially with options like Esembly cloth diapers on the rise!

1. Save on diapers with a Diaper Raffle

One of the most common ways to first stock up on diapers is by hosting a diaper raffle at your baby shower.

A diaper raffle is a fun way to ask guests to bring a pack of diapers with them. Everyone who brings a pack of diapers is then entered into a raffle for a fun prize of your choosing.

You could also ask guests to guess the baby’s gender by either bringing diapers or wipes. So they would bring a pack of diapers if they think it’s a boy, or a pack of wipes if they think it’s a girl.

These simple games can help start your diaper stack. Just make sure you are asking for multiple sizes instead of just Newborn or Size 1! They will grow out of those the fastest so you won’t need many.

2. Baby Registry

If you don’t plan on hosting a baby shower, you can also put diapers on your baby registry. Again, just make sure you put a good range of sizes on the list to purchase from.

Amazon’s Baby Registry is a great way to cap each size out so that everyone isn’t buying one size. You can also leave a note to give your guests the option to buy elsewhere or a different brand.

Ask for a variety of diaper sizes on Amazon Baby Registry

Or if you want to be a little more eco-conscious, you can always put cloth diapers on your registry! Take the Esembly cloth diapers for example. Their size 1 weight range is between 7 and 17 pounds. Versus Huggies Newborn size that only goes up to 10 pounds, and Size 1 which is up to 14 pounds.

Additionally since cloth diapers tend to have more upfront cost, putting them on your registry makes it a great gift from your friends and family. But we will get into this option more later.

3. Facebook Marketplace – save on diapers

Facebook Marketplace is a great place if you are trying to save money on diapers. You can also use it for other baby essentials like formula.

Baby’s grow fast and sometimes parents have more diapers of a particular size than they can use. Instead of tossing them away, many parents choose to make some of their money back by selling them.

You can get a great amount of diapers of various size for a lot cheaper! Plus this option ensures less waste overall. Because you may only need a few more diapers of a certain size before your baby is in the next size.

This is also a good resource for finding cloth diapers too! Learn more on that next.

4. Cloth diapers

Speaking of less waste, cloth diapers are actually one of the best ways to reduce and reuse. You can put these on your baby registry or find some on Facebook Marketplace as well. Not only does that contribute to less waste, but you can also save more money on diapers that way too.

Cloth diapers are also beneficial in limiting diaper rash and baby skin problems that could come from traditional diapers.

With cloth diapers becoming more mainstream, here is my recommendation.

Esembly – best cloth diaper option

Esembly is one of the best, and most popular, brands of cloth diapers. These diapers are organic, blowout-proof, super easy to use and SO CUTE!

They offer a number of product options, including inner liners and outer covers. But they also are a great resource for parents to learn how to start using cloth diapers over traditional diapers. Especially when it comes to laundry care.

By using Esembly diapers and accessories from birth to potty training, you can save around $3500+ over the cost of disposables!

5. Save money on diapers with Elimination Communication

One of the major benefits of cloth diapers in the long run is helping with potty training.

When your baby is born, they are already hard-wired to not want to soil themselves. For comfort, traditional diapers like Huggies are very absorbent. Which means your little one never really feels like they wet themselves.

Traditional diapers are very absorbent which could cause your baby to stop giving potty signals

Eventually this can become an issue as the cues your little one gives when they need to potty become lost. Instead, they become used to soiling themselves because they can’t feel that they have.

Cloth diapers are beneficial in helping both you and your little one become more in tune for when bathroom time is.

Cloth diapers, like the ones from Esembly, still allow your child to sense that they have wet themselves. Thus giving you more of an opportunity to learn their cues for when they need to use the restroom.

Because of this, it can make adopting elimination communication much easier.

Elimination communication is learning the signs of when you baby needs to pee or poop, taking off their diaper, and letting them do their business on a toilet while you hold them up.

Once they have done so, you would then associate that action with a sound. That way in the future, you can make the sound first which will then signal to them to pee or poop. Learn more about elimination communication here.

Some parents have even claimed that through elimination communication, they have drastically cut their diaper usage to only needing them for nighttime. With some parents claiming success by just 8 months!

This is a huge way to save money on diapers because you won’t really be using them.
