Water Lantern Festival: A Tangled Fan’s Dream Event

The most iconic scene in Disney’s movie, Tangled, is when Rapunzel is finally able to see the floating lanterns for herself. Since 2010, “See the Light” has captured hearts left and right. It has also caused many to seek out their own lantern experience. And the Water Lantern Festival is just the place to see them! This event takes place in various location around the United States. Meaning if you have been waiting to see the floating lanterns gleam, then read on.

The Water Lantern Festival Details

Beyond its visual appeal, the Water Lantern Festival provides an opportunity for people to share their dreams or release their stress and frustrations.

At the festival, participants decorate lanterns with personal messages, wishes, or designs before setting them afloat on the water. As dusk falls, the illuminated lanterns create a captivating display of light and color. It is an absolutely beautiful sight.

Ticket prices include admission, two decks of cards, and a lantern kit, which includes all necessary materials for decoration. Food vendors offer a variety of culinary delights, and live music adds to the festive atmosphere.

Come prepared for the event by bringing your own food, chairs, and/or blankets to sit on before the lantern release begins.

An Inside Look: Pictures from Temecula’s event

I attended the event at Lake Elsinore, just outside of Temecula. It was a great spring activity to take part in! My sister and I also Disney Bounded as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.

Although the lanterns are floating, unlike Tangled, they aren’t being released into the air. In fact, they are floating on top of the water! Hence the name, of course.

Seeing them fly would have been cool. But instead you are treated to something even better. Because seeing the lanterns float and reflect off of the water makes the experience that much more beautiful.

Even though releasing your lantern and watching it drift off doesn’t take too long, it was really nice to just stand at the water’s edge and watch the lanterns float by.

More so it was nice to read what other people were hoping for, praying for, and sending their lanterns out into the world for.

The Water Lantern Festival ended up being a very emotional event for me to experience. At the time I was grieving a loss and watching the lanterns after setting mine on the water felt like a true emotional release.

Overall it was a very beautiful event and I highly recommend the Water Lantern Festival to anyone else who may be looking for something fun to do. Or if you are looking to release a weight off of your shoulders.

And be sure to take pictures! One of these pictures will definitely end up as your new phone wallpaper.
