Overlooking downtown Kansas City

When looking for fun things to do in Kansas City on my own, I found the lack of blog results disheartening. Surely there’s more to do than view yet another park, right? Well I decided to venture out on my own to find some fun, non-park activities. And this list will surely keep you occupied the next time you visit Kansas City!

Pennway Putt & Ferris Wheel

Pennway Putt and ferris wheel in Kansas City

Located at 2435 Jefferson St, Kansas City, MO 64111.

Pennway Putt is a 16-hole miniature golf course. And when I say “mini” golf, I mean mini. Nothing like what you may experience by going to a Boomers mini golf course.

The views from the top of the ferris wheel are great! They offer mini golf and the ferris wheel as separate tickets. But they also offer it as a package if you think you want to do both. For the Spin & Swing package, it is $25 per person.

Located at 101 Southwest Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108.

Up Down Arcade Bar as tons of arcade games, pinball machines, skeeball, and more! You will have to be 21+ to enter. Not only do they have a full bar, but they also offer some pretty bomb pizza.

They also have daily specials – listed on the board below. But you can also look them up online as well. My husband and I showed up on a Friday, got free tokens, and were entertained for a few hours and still had tokens leftover.

Le Petit Chef at Hotel Phillips

Le Petit Chef inside Hotel Phillips in Kansas City

Located inside Hotel Phillips at 106 W 12th St, Kansas City, MO 64105.

Le Petit Chef is a premier dining experience. When you take a seat, you are treated to a projection onto the tabletop of four tiny chefs each preparing you a different dish from their home country.

This 4-course dinner is priced at $150 per person, but after tax and a 25% required gratuity, it comes out to around $220 a person. The experience takes about an hour and a half.

Read my full review here before booking your experience though.

Ambiance on the Water – Gondola Rides

Ambiance on the Water gondola rides - fun things to do in Kansas City

Float down the canal in the beautiful Country Club Plaza area. Only available from April 1 to November 30th, this makes for a great date night activity or group activity. They offer a number of different gondola packages for couples and groups up to 6. Rates start at $69.24 for the standard package for two guests. Boat rides are around 20-30 minutes long depending on the package you get. This is a very unique, fun thing to do in Kansas City.

Sinkers Lounge – Putt Putt Bar

Sinkers Lounge putt putt bar

Located at 53 W 13th St, Kansas City, MO 64105.

Sinkers Lounge is an indoor mini golf and bar venue. Even though it has a cocktail bar, kids are still allowed. For one round of mini golf per person, it’s $15. But if you want unlimited rounds of both mini golf and tabletop golf, it’s $20. It’s a great spot to relax and have some fun in a casual setting. Not to mention it’s indoors so it’ll help for those less-than-ideal weather days. This is a great fun activity to do in Kansas City for all ages.

Mercury Room Bar

The Mercury Room Bar

Located at 1800 Walnut St Suite 1400, Kansas City, MO 64108.

Want a fancy date night stop? Check out the Mercury Room. This beautiful bar overlooks downtown Kansas City. Reservations are required and are for an hour and 45 minutes. Additionally there is a dress code.

To reserve your spot, there are two options. The Standard Reservation is $20 per person, and this deposit reserves your reservation and goes towards your bar tab. Or you can choose the 3 Course Cocktail Tasting. That option is $75 per person and you will work with the bartender for them create a curated cocktail selection for you.

Union Station

Located at 30 W Pershing Rd, Kansas City, MO 64108.

This train station is a historical landmark, and far from boring. Union Station offers many fun activities to do including a movie theater, a science exhibit, restaurants, stores, a planetarium, a rotating schedule exhibit, and more. Entry is free but activities inside will vary in price and availability.

SeaLife Aquarium – Fun Things in Kansas City

SeaLife Aquarium is a great stop if you are traveling with kids. Tickets are currently $20 for kids and adults when purchased in advance, and $23 when purchased day of. And there are ticket options available if you want to do the aquarium as well as Legoland’s Discovery Center right next store.

Central Library

Located at 14 W 10th St, Kansas City, MO 64105.

When you first walk up to Central Library, you may be thinking to yourself “I think I’m in the wrong place.” Why? Because it says “First National Bank” on the entrance. Well.. it used to be a bank! Upon entering, you’ll be floored with how beautiful this space is. There is a children’s area upstairs as well. But if you head downstairs, this is where things get really cool. Downstairs is the vault room which has been repurposed into a movie and theater area. Even if you just walk around, this is still a fun thing to do in downtown Kansas City.

Kansas City Chiefs Game

Flyover at Arrowhead Stadium

This one seems like the most obvious fun thing to do in Kansas City. But for anyone who didn’t already consider catching a game, might as well add it to this list!
