Camp Snap Review: The Camera Quality Pros and Cons

Camp Snap digital cameras are becoming increasingly popular. Although originally designed as a way for kids to take cameras to camps with screen-free policies, it is now being picked up by more adults. The first reason is because they allow for a screen detox while still being able to capture memories. But the bigger reason adults are flocking to Camp Snap is for the nostalgia. It looks and feels exactly like a disposable camera, but with some upgraded benefits. So if you like many others are interested in a Camp Snap camera, let’s review the good, bad, and of course how the overall photo quality is.

Camp Snap Camera Review

Camp Snap cameras are meant to allow the user to “stay in the moment”. So often with our phones we try to get the perfect shot. More so, we may even be prone to editing the picture right after taking it.

In a very big way, our phones have become the biggest distraction in our lives when a lot of the time all we really want is a way to capture a memory.

After using my Camp Snap camera for a few months I am pleased to give it a positive review.

Price

Rating: 5 out of 5.

$70 isn’t bad for a digital camera! In fact when you chalk up the expense-to-photo ratio compared to a traditional disposable camera, you get a lot of bang for the buck.

Ease of use

Rating: 5 out of 5.

There are no “camera settings” so no photography skills are required. Just point and shoot! But of course having a basic understanding of natural lighting can help you take better pictures.

Photo convenience

Rating: 5 out of 5.

You can use the USB-C cable that is included with your purchase to plug the camera directly into any USB-C compatible device. Or you can buy a microSD card reader from Amazon to insert your memory card into and plug it into to a USB-C or a USB port.

Durability – Camp Snap Review

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

For a digital camera, I am very impressed with how sturdy the camera feels. But at the end of the day, it is still a digital camera and should be handled with some level of care. I will say this though, I’d be more concerned about dropping my iPhone than I would dropping this.

“Live in the moment” feel

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Because Camp Snap camera are screen-less, it really does allow you to not focus on how the picture turned out. It also keeps you from needing to edit the photo and post it right away on social media. As such, it’s a great way to capture memories but keep you living in the moment.

This fact alone is why my review of Camp Snap is so high.

Available accessories

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I wasn’t impressed with the available accessories for my Camp Snap camera. They do have a waterproof case which is awesome. But they only offered a wrist strap for carrying the camera. And the wrist strap doubles as a USB-C cable which doesn’t make it great for taking outdoors. Additionally, there was no accessory for the people who don’t have a USB-C compatible device to just plug the camera directly into.

Camp Snap camera review and photo quality

I went ahead and purchased this thin camera strap from Amazon for $8. It attaches to both sides of the Camp Snap camera so I can wear it around my neck. I also bought a microSD card reader from Amazon for $10 as well since I don’t have a USB-C compatible phone or computer.

This point is probably my only real hiccup with my review of Camp Snap.

Photo quality – Camp Snap Review

More on the Camp Snap camera photo quality below.

Review the Camp Snap Photo Quality

Keep in mind that Camp Snap photos are supposed to have the vintage film-style quality that is similar to a disposable camera. So this review of Camp Snap will be based on that quality.

Additionally, the photos below have also been scaled down from their original file size so as to not overload this page. So the photo quality is slightly better than how they appear here.

Great example of Camp Snap photo quality using flash
The flash came out great. And better yet – no red eye!

It worked great in colorful outdoor, fully-shaded areas! Baby’s blurred face is the only “edit” made to this photo.

The sunset colors are less vibrant than real life but hey that’s the “vintage film-style” that Camp Snap photos are about!

This picture taken with flash and I love that you can still see all the lights.
Camp Snap doesn't work great for close-ups
Unfortunately Camp Snap cameras aren’t meant for close-up shots.
Camp Snap camera can produce some blur
When you initially click the button, there is a small delay until a noise sounds off. Make sure you stay still until after you hear the camera make that “captured” noise or you could end up with a little blur.

It works great in an indoor setting that has tons of natural light!

This is a “no flash” picture and it turned out great.

My review of the Camp Snap photo quality is 5 stars. The reason being that the photos turned out great in comparison to a traditional disposable camera. Furthermore, I believe that it:

  • works better in low light
  • the flash isn’t so powerful that it drowns out the background
  • and no red eye!

Unique ways to use this camera

For your wedding guests

Camp Snap wedding guest reception pack

Get your wedding guests involved with helping to capture your big day! Camp Snap offers a 6-pack of their iconic cameras specifically for weddings. Hand these out at your reception and let your loved ones have fun passing the cameras around for the night.

Your photographers are going to handle the top notch pictures. But let your family and friends capture the spontaneity, the random, and all the love from them celebrating you.

Time capsule of memories

It can be easy to over-shoot pictures and videos on your phone because of the need for the “perfect shot”. But Camp Snap thrives on the candid. The raw. The “of my gosh I think I blinked!”

Instead of taking countless photos on your phone, many of which you will never look at again, take a Camp Snap camera with you. When you’re hanging with your friends. When you’re attending a concert, going to the zoo, jetting off on vacation. Use this screen-less digital camera to capture the best of the best moments. Then at the end of the year, open it up to see all the wild memories that you made.

Kids scavenger hunt

Want to keep your kids extra entertained either at home or out and about? Send them on a scavenger hunt with their own Camp Snap camera!

Make a list of things to find, or there are tons of activity pages on Etsy to buy as well. Gear them towards whatever activity you’re doing (ie, one for a zoo day, a different one for the aquarium, etc).

Customize your Camp Snap camera with your name

You can even get a Camp Snap personalized with their name so there are no arguments on who’s using whose camera.

Camera Roulette

Put everyone’s camera in a bag. One by one someone will reach into the bag and pull out a camera. Whoever’s camera you get, you’re now responsible for taking pictures of them throughout the day.

This works whether you and your friends have:

  • different colored cameras,
  • your names personalized on them,
  • or just taping your name on your camera before choosing

With our phones, we take pictures of everything else expect ourselves. Or if we do take a picture of ourselves, it’s either a selfie or a “hand on the hip and smile at the camera” kind of photo.

And one of the best parts about looking through old photo albums is how candid the photos all seemed. With camera roulette with your Camp Snap camera, you’ll get that.

This is a great option to do for group trips or family celebrations.
